Florida Dengue Outbreak Cases Nearly Double as Tampa Bay Emerges as a Major Health Concern for Travellers

Florida dengue cases have nearly doubled since September. Discover the Tampa Bay hotspots, mosquito-control efforts and travel precautions for visitors. Florida is facing a growing dengue outbreak, with cases in Tampa Bay nearly doubling since September. The situation has worsened since local authorities have declared emergencies in parts of the Tampa Bay region. The latest Florida Department of Health surveillance report, covering 11–17 October, recorded 425 locally acquired dengues cases across 11 counties, with an additional 320 cases associated with international travel. These cases are different: locally acquired cases indicate infection occurred in Florida, while travel-associated cases are linked to travel elsewhere. The Tampa Bay area offers beaches, parks, waterfront activities, outdoor dining and cruise-related travel, but outdoor activities can increase opportunities for mosquito bites. The outbreak does not necessarily mean visitors should cancel a Florida holiday. Instead, travellers should check county health alerts before departure and follow the latest advice during their stay.
