Rays’ World Series run brings welcome boost to Tampa Bay hotels, vacation rentals
Hospitality businesses say the World Series is driving an unusual surge in bookings during what is normally a slower time of year, providing a welcome boost after two years of hurricane recovery. The Tampa Bay Rays' World Series run has brought an influx of visitors to the region, with hotels and vacation rental owners seeing an increase in visitors. The increase comes as Tampa International Airport expects over 78,000 passengers on both Sunday and Monday. Major League Baseball estimates postseason games can generate up to $7 million per game in economic impact for the region. The Hollander Hotel in St. Petersburg, General Manager, said the hotel was at capacity beginning Friday and continuing through Wednesday. The increased demand also benefits other tourism-related companies. The Rays will return to play against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night at Tropicana Field.
