Couple who helped bring MLB team to Tampa Bay eyes World Series victory
For nearly three decades, one couple has shared front-row seats behind home plate at Tropicana Field. This October, they're hoping to witness history as the Tampa Bay Rays chase their first World Series championship. Jack and Mary Critchfield, who have been married nearly 40 years, are hoping to witness history as the Tampa Bay Rays aim for their first World Series championship. The couple, who helped bring Major League Baseball to Tampa Bay in the 1990s, have been fixtures behind home plate at Tropicana Field since Opening Day 1998. They have attended an average of 78 out of 81 regular-season home games each year, and have developed lasting friendships with fellow fans and stadium employees. Despite setbacks such as Hurricane Milton's destruction of Tropicano Field in 2024, Jack and Mary remain committed to their baseball tradition. They also plan to attend the team's planned $2.3 billion ballpark in Tampa in 2029.
