TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Jimmy Buffett’s daughter visited Tampa Tuesday to help welcome the new Margaritaville at Sea Islander to its home port.

“It really just brings to life, sort of all the mythology that was created by my father, Jimmy, and what Margaritaville has done with this brand,” Savannah Buffett said.

The new ship will depart on its first voyage on Friday.

Savannah Buffett was named the “godmother” of the Islander and said the ship will help continue her father’s legacy.

“I feel so blessed to be the Godmother,” Buffett said. “It’s about really continuing the legacy of my father, my grandfather, my great-grandfather and my grandmother who were all seafaring people. So it really is an honor for me to do this here on the Gulf Coast, where my father’s from, and with the ship, which is how our legacy was created.”

Islander passengers will be able to take part in mini golf and see live shows. The ship also has a kids club, a casino and a three-story poolside Landshark bar.

“You can bring your grandparents, your great-grandparents, your kids and they’re all going to have a good time, you can feel like a kid,” she said. “Jimmy always embodied growing older but not up, so that’s what we want to do on this ship.”

The Islander’s first cruise is a four-night trip to Mexico. In the future, the ship will take passengers on week-long cruises.

The ship can hold 2,650 passengers and has 12 decks.

The Islander is the company’s second ship. The company’s first ship, the Paradise, launched in 2022 and sails from the Port of Palm Beach.
