A 57-year-old Lakeland man died after his SUV left the roadway and crashed near Lake Bonny Friday afternoon, according to the Lakeland Police Department (LPD). A 57-year-old Lakeland man died after his SUV left the roadway and crashed near Lake Bonny, Florida, according to the Lakeland Police Department (LPD). The single-vehicle crash occurred around 12:13 p.m. on Longfellow Boulevard, where the driver, a GMC SUV, left the road for an unknown reason and struck a traffic control signpost. The SUV continued downhill before coming to rest on the shoreline of Lake Bonhy. The driver was transported to Lakeland Regional Health where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin. The Lakeland police are investigating the crash.
