POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — An American bald eagle that was found at an intersection in Polk County has been rescued.

According to Polk County Animal Control, the bird was found at the intersection of County Road 540 and DeCastro Road on Wednesday morning.

The image shows Animal Control Road Supervisor, Brittanuy D’Azzo, with the bird. Officials said the eagle is being taken to the Raptor Center.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida is home to one of the “densest concertations of nesting bald eagles,” with roughly 1,500 nesting pairs. These birds are known to nest around lakes, rivers, and coastal systems.
