University of Tampa names former South Carolina leader interim president
Harris Pastides will take over during the fall semester as the university searches for Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg’s successor. The University of Tampa has named former University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides as interim president. This follows the resignation of President Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg, who took office in June 2024 for personal reasons. Pastides, who led South Carolina from 2008 to 2019, will use the remainder of the fall semester to transition into the role while UTampa trustees seek a permanent leader. During his 11-year presidency at South Carolina, Pastides led an eight-institution university system, oversaw growth in research funding and completed a capital campaign that raised more than $1 billion. The university plans to arrange opportunities for students, employees, alumni and Tampa Bay community members to meet Pastides.
