Simpson's slick feet go all the way back to middle school
MILWAUKEE -- Long before Chandler Simpson was realizing his dream of swiping big league bases, he’d already learned how to steal a show. Chandon Simpson, a Rays player, has been recognized for combining blazing speed with remarkable bat-to-ball skills and rapidly improving defense. Despite not being a power player, Simpson has yet to hit a Major League home run and is the first qualified player to bat at least.300 with no home runs in a season since Luis Castillo with the Marlins in 1999. His focus is on low line drives up the middle and his 80-grade speed can turn routine grounders into an adventure for opposing defenders. His father, Ralph, instilled his son's focus on getting on base more important than swinging for the fences. Simpson credits the Rays for maximizing his offensive talents, but believes his defensive game can both complement each other.
