Woman Dies After Convertible Overturns In Crash: Tampa Police

The passenger in a convertible that overturned in a Sunday morning crash on E. Hillsborough Avenue died, Tampa police said. Tampa Police responded to reports of an overturned convertible at the intersection of N. 11th Street and E. Hillsborough Avenue, shortly before noon. The passenger, a woman in her late 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, a man in his late 70, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The car veered off the left side of the road for unknown reasons and landed on its roof after hitting a utility pole. The victim's next of kin has been notified.

Officers responded to reports of an overturned convertible at the intersection of N. 11th Street and E. Hillsborough Avenue just before noon, according to a Tampa Police Department news release. The passenger, a woman in her late 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a man in his late 70s, was brought to a local hospital in stable condition. The car was traveling west in the inside lane of E. Hillsborough Avenue , near N. 12th Street, when it veered to the left side of the road for unknown reasons, investigators said.

It came to a rest on its roof after hitting a utility pole just south of N. 11th Street. The victim’s next of kin was notified.
