Mayfield set to return vs. Panthers, turn around struggling Buccaneers
The last-place Bucs are in need of a spark. Baker Mayfield is the right guy to provide it when he makes his anticipated return to the field Sunday against division rival Carolina. Baker Mayfield is set to return to the field for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against division rival Carolina, after missing three games due to a dislocated right thumb. Mayfield returned to practice wearing a protective white glove to support the area, but the thumb is strong enough to play. The Buccaneers, ranked last in the NFL, have won five of the past six games against Carolina and eight of the last 10 against each other. Carolina's Bryce Young, who leads the NFL in yards passing per game, is expected to perform well against Tampa Bay. The Panthers' defense ranks No. 4 in the league in yards allowed but 20th against the pass. Tampa Bay's Bucky Irving ranks fourth in the League in the highest percentage of missed tackles since 2024, while the Buccaneers' B-ball defense ranks just second in the past seven seasons.
