The Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa has gifted its ballet shoes to students at Sullivan Elementary School in the school. The gift is part of a partnership between the theater and Metropolitan Ministries that brings dance lessons into classrooms to make learning about the arts more accessible. The program should expand to kindergarten and first-grade students after the new year. Trisha Stever, community engagement manager at the Straz Patel Conservatory, said the ballet education partnership aligns with the center's mission of bringing performing arts to underserved communities and removes barriers for families struggling with the logistics or costs associated with attending dance classes.
