LAKELAND, Fla. — A motorcyclist is dead after slamming into a car Thursday morning in Lakeland, according to law enforcement.

Lakeland police officers, along with local fire rescue officials, responded shortly after 11:30 a.m. to the crash at East Edgewood Drive near Lake Bentley.

When they arrived, responders found 22-year-old Cody Ingram, of Lakeland, and immediately performed life-saving measures, the police department said. He was rushed to Lakeland Regional Health, where authorities said he later died.

Officials said Ingram was headed west on East Edgewood Drive when the crash happened. A white Hyundai SUV had pulled out of a parking lot, crossed into the westbound lane and was awaiting eastbound traffic. That's when authorities say Ingram hit the SUV, causing him to be thrown from the bike.

The driver of the SUV was identified by police as a 41-year-old Lakeland woman. She did not get hurt during the crash.

The road was shut down for two hours for officials to investigate the scene.
