Bucs sign five draft picks; top three still await deals

Pitt defensive lineman Calijah Kancey, North Dakota State guard Cody Mauch and Louisville linebacker YaYa Diaby remain unsigned. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed five of their eight draft picks from the 2023 draft class, including Pitt linebacker SirVocea Dennis, tight end Payne Durham, defensive back Josh Hayes, wide receiver Trey Palmer and outside linebacker Jose Ramirez. The top three draft picks remain unsigned, with Calijah Kancey, North Dakota State guard Cody Mauch and Louisville outside linebacker YaYa Diaby. The Bucs will need about $3 million in salary-cap space to sign those players, but there is no reason to think they won't all reach an accord with the team by the start of training camp.

TAMPA ― The Bucs signed five of their eight picks from the 2023 draft class.

Reaching agreements with the team on Thursday were Pitt linebacker SirVocea Dennis, tight end Payne Durham, defensive back Josh Hayes, wide receiver Trey Palmer and outside linebacker Jose Ramirez.

The Bucs’ top three draft picks ― Pitt defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, North Dakota State guard Cody Mauch and Louisville outside linebacker YaYa Diaby — remain unsigned.

The Bucs will need about $3 million in salary-cap space to sign those players, but there’s no reason to think they won’t all reach an accord with the team by the start of training camp.

Of the players signed Thursday, Hayes could have a big impact as a possible slot cornerback, while Palmer is expected to serve as a kick returner and deep threat at receiver. Dennis’ role could increase if linebacker Devin White continues to insist to be traded.

Both Kancey and Mauch are likely to emerge as starters as rookies, while Diaby should provide production as a situational pass rusher.
