White House military spouse council floats toll cuts for troops commuting to base
The council said toll cuts for troops who commute to MacDill should be a policy that’s expanded to other bases. A White House-appointed commission of military spouses has proposed reducing or eliminating tolls for some service members who commute to work. The policy was recommended during a meeting with members of the White House's Military Spouse Commission. Currently, troops at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, have received a 50% reduction in toll fees, equating to $1,500 in savings per year for service members. The commission's chairwoman, Jennifer Hegseth, is married to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegsetsh, said they're looking to use this policy as a template to expand toll reduction efforts to other military bases across the U.S. The Pentagon declined to comment on the policy's potential expansion.
